Vampyren (Sweden 1913,Dir.Mauritz Stiller,Cast.Victor Sjostrom)

Summary: A thriller with the undertitle "A Woman's Slave". The word vampire (in Swedish "vampyr")is here used with for its time daring sexual implications. The seductive tempteress Lilli is acting like a Vergilian siren. A poor officer is lured to act on her her behalf. The crime is revealed and he is forced to escape to America. He finally faces his seductive tempteress and she is by this time sorry for her former actions.

The interesting thing is that this silent movie made by one of the most innovative film creators of all time - Mauritz Stiller - might be the first using the Gothic theme of vampires! Correct if I'm wrong! Göran O:son Waltå Ph. D. Visby/ Sweden
